In December 2008, Jay petitioned a Los Angeles court to allow him to legally add Nikki's last name to his, changing his name to Jay Ferguson Cox Mohr.

Cox won her first speaking part in a guest-starring role in "Mama's Family". Her other television credits included "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987), "Night Court" (1984), "Murphy Brown", "Baywatch" (1989) and "Boy Meets World" (1993). Cox also had starring roles in The Ryan White Story (1989) (TV) and the sci-fi thriller Danger Island both television movies.

Nikki was first noticed when she was crowned with the Fresh Faces Award at age 13, Nikki Cox later received recognition for playing Tiffany Malloy in UPN's series Unhappily Ever After.
